One of the potential duties that the Villa Park Fire Corps is offering to perform is the ability to relieve Fire Fighters and Lieutenants from standby duty for live wires down. The situation is common during storm related incidents due to high winds and tree falling on wires but can also occur on perfectly clear days as was the case this time. Warrior Class Adds CERT Members in Villa Park

At least two new CERT volunteers were added to the Villa Park CERT Team upon graduation at the Du Page County Fairgrounds in Wheaton, Illinois. The Warrior class completed their live graduation drill on Thursday – April 28, 2016. Included in the class are Villa Park Citizen Fire Academy graduates – Robert Fliege and Alicia Bassett who completed their 7 week CERT training classes. Villa Park Police Deputy Chief Mike Lay called together all CERT members for a special meeting at the police station on Monday, April 18. The purpose of the meeting was to review upcoming events, relay changes within the Police Department and to check CERT equipment deployed for each member. VP Police Sgt. Small Fire Under Kitchen Sink on Villa Ave

Villa Park Fire responded to a possible structure fire and report of an explosion at 5:12 PM on Monday – April 18, 2016 in an apartment building at 231 S. Villa Avenue. The engine companies arriving on the scene found a small fire under a kitchen sink near the garbage disposal. The fire was quickly extinguished and no extension of the fire was found. A chemical odor from products located under the sink required additional ventilation. Fire units from Elmhurst and Oakbrook Terrace were staged at the scene.

Villa Park FIRE CORPS begins!

The newest branch of the Villa Park Citizen Corps was added on Wednesday – April 13, 2016 named the Villa Park Fire Corps. The group includes recent graduates of the Villa Park Fire Department Citizen Fire Academy and CERT graduates. Many of the new Fire Corps members have received training in both groups. The purpose of the Villa Park Fire Corps is utilize community members in non-emergency roles to supplement fire/EMS departments.
