The newest branch of the Villa Park Citizen Corps was added on Wednesday – April 13, 2016 named the Villa Park Fire Corps. The group includes recent graduates of the Villa Park Fire Department Citizen Fire Academy and CERT graduates. Many of the new Fire Corps members have received training in both groups.
The purpose of the Villa Park Fire Corps is utilize community members in non-emergency roles to supplement fire/EMS departments. The groups will work with the Villa Park Fire Department to complete a initial needs assessment. That process will identify which tasks will best meet the needs of the Fire Department.
The Fire Corps will also identify four members to serve as officers to officially create the governing organization needed to register with the State of Illinois as a Not-For-Profit organization.
Some of the tasks that the Fire Corps group will pursue include the following activities:
- Monitors for wire down
- Monitors for flooded streets
- Fire Prevention and Safety Programs for Seniors
- Fire Prevention and Safety Programs for Students
- Grant Writing
- Rehab/Canteen Services for Fire Department Training
- Creation of Public Service Announcements
- Photography / Video at Fire Scenes
The Villa Park Fire Corps will also continue to pursue additional training using online FEMA courses and also from the Red Cross and public utilities like COM ED. The group will track all training and volunteer activity hours to recognize the commitments made to the program by each member.
All recent CERT graduates and graduates of the Villa Park Citizen Fire Academy are eligible for membership in the Villa Park Fire Corps.
